Next steps

Once you have all your opening balances recorded, the reports on the right hand screen of Prudent will then start to populate itself with figures that will be useful to you:

  • Calendar shows you a summary of your core financial indicators (Profit & Loss , Net Worth and Cash - Debt) by month. Explore the accounts and transactions behind those summarizing figures by clicking on it.
  • Account tree that shows all accounts in expandable tree form with the basic accounts at the top-level.
  • Transactions registry that are accessible via any accounts on the account tree.
  • Reports that can be added by installing extensions in Settings.

Cadence

You should update your journal with a regular cadence of your preference. A reasonable habit may involve aside a bit of time at the beginning of the month to run the import and update extensions and go through the reports to see if there's anything that needs to be actioned on or areas of improvement.

Different accounts and prices may require different update cadence, not all need to be updated monthly. Obviously, it depends on the number of transactions or regularity of change. The documentation for each extension has suggested cadence for the accounts and prices that it helps with.

The rest of the guides in this documentation give you more details on what's possible with Prudent.
